Once a year, the whole Catholic Church lifts its eyes beyond its own parish walls and remembers that the Gospel is meant for every nation, every village, and every heart. That day is World Mission Sunday, and at its center stands a simple, powerful act: prayer. On this page you will find the story of the day, a main World Mission Sunday prayer, the Bible verses behind it, ways to observe it, and a treasury of more than 180 short prayers for the Church’s mission, arranged by theme and by region of the world, so that you can pray for the nations one by one.

What Is World Mission Sunday?

World Mission Sunday is the Church’s universal day of prayer and giving for the missions, celebrated every year on the second-to-last Sunday of October. It was established by Pope Pius XI in 1926, who wanted every member of the Church to share personally in the work of evangelization through prayer, sacrifice, and generosity. In 2026 the Church joyfully marks the 100th World Mission Sunday, a full century of ordinary believers sustaining extraordinary missions, and Pope Leo XIV has chosen the theme “One in Christ, United in Mission” for this centenary. Few themes could say it better: the mission belongs to the whole Body of Christ, united as one family across every border.

On this day, parishes around the world take up a collection coordinated through the Pontifical Mission Societies, supporting more than a thousand mission dioceses, mainly across Africa, Asia, Oceania, and parts of Latin America and Europe. That support trains seminarians, sustains catechists, builds churches and schools, and keeps clinics and orphanages open where the local Church is young and poor. But World Mission Sunday has never been only about money. It is first a day of prayer, because the Church has always believed that every mission begins on its knees, and the prayers below are written so that yours can join that great worldwide chorus.

The World Mission Sunday Prayer

Heavenly Father, on this World Mission Sunday we thank You for the gift of faith and for the missionaries who carried it across oceans, deserts, and mountains so that we might know Your Son. Bless every priest, sister, brother, catechist, and lay missionary serving in distant lands today. Strengthen them when they are weary, protect them when they are in danger, and make their witness fruitful, that hearts may open to the Gospel in every place. Stir our own hearts, Lord, to be missionaries where we are: generous in prayer, generous in giving, and courageous in sharing the joy of Jesus with those around us. One in Christ, united in mission, may Your kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Bible Verses for World Mission Sunday

The Great Commission stands at the heart of this day. Before ascending into heaven, Jesus gave His Church its marching orders, words that still send missionaries to the ends of the earth:

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

  • “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
  • “Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.” (Psalm 96:3)
  • “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!'” (Isaiah 6:8)
  • “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?” (Romans 10:14-15)

How to Observe World Mission Sunday

  • Pray the prayers on this page. Choose a theme or a region each day of the week of World Mission Sunday, and pray for missionaries by name wherever you know them.
  • Give to the mission collection. The collection taken up in parishes on this day supports the Pontifical Mission Societies and reaches mission dioceses that could not survive without it.
  • Pray the World Mission Rosary. Its decades in different colors represent the continents: green for Africa, red for the Americas, white for Europe, blue for Oceania, and yellow for Asia.
  • Offer a sacrifice. Skip a small comfort and give what you saved to the missions, joining your generosity to personal sacrifice as believers have done for a century.
  • Share the mission. Tell a child, a friend, or a coworker about the day, and let the theme travel further because of you: one in Christ, united in mission.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is World Mission Sunday celebrated?

It is celebrated every year on the second-to-last Sunday of October, in every country, so that the whole Church prays and gives for the missions on the same day.

Who established World Mission Sunday?

Pope Pius XI established it in 1926, building on the work of the Pontifical Mission Societies and on the vision of Blessed Pauline Jaricot, the young French laywoman whose small weekly offerings from ordinary workers became the seed of worldwide mission support. The year 2026 marks the 100th celebration.

Where does the collection go?

Gifts are gathered through the Pontifical Mission Societies and distributed to mission territories, supporting the daily life of more than a thousand dioceses: seminarians and catechists in training, churches built and repaired, and works of charity such as schools, clinics, and orphanages.

180+ Short Prayers for the Church’s Mission

Below is the treasury: short, complete prayers of two or more sentences each, numbered for easy return. Pray a section a day through the week of World Mission Sunday, or gather your family and pray a whole region aloud. Every prayer is a small door through which the whole world can enter your prayer life.

Prayers for Evangelization

Lord Jesus, set Your Church on fire again with the joy of the Gospel we have grown too quiet about. Give us words that heal, courage that stays humble, and love that makes the good news believable to a watching world.

Heavenly Father, open doors for the Gospel that no human power can shut: doors in schools, in hospitals, in prisons, and in the quiet rooms of the internet. Let Your Word run swiftly and be glorified everywhere.

Holy Spirit, who fell at Pentecost and turned frightened apostles into fearless preachers, fall on us again this World Mission Sunday. Make ordinary believers into joyful witnesses in their own streets and kitchens.

Lord, prepare the hearts of those who will hear the Gospel this year: give dreams to the searching, questions to the comfortable, and hunger to the satisfied. Let the soil be ready before the seed arrives.

Father, bless every conversation about Jesus happening today in coffee shops, buses, and marketplaces. Give believers natural openings, gentle words, and the wisdom to listen before they speak. Let no believer waste an open door today through shyness, distraction, or fear of awkwardness.

Jesus, Good Shepherd, go after the one sheep in every family who has wandered furthest from the fold. Let this be the year of homecomings, prodigals embraced, and tears at the door.

God of the harvest, raise up evangelists with the gift of making the ancient Gospel sound like today’s good news. Anoint their preaching, their writing, their music, and their quiet one-to-one witness.

Lord, bless the translation of Your Word into every language still waiting for it. Give translators stamina, accuracy, and joy, until no people group must worship through a borrowed tongue.

Father, let the Church’s charity preach before her words do: let the fed hungry, the healed sick, and the educated child become sermons no argument can refute. Make our love the loudest evangelist.

Holy Spirit, stir the lukewarm corners of our own parishes first. A renewed home church evangelizes by existing; set our own house alight and the warmth will travel. A renewed home church evangelizes simply by existing; set our own house alight and the warmth will travel farther than we can see.

Lord Jesus, bless Christian witness on screens and airwaves reaching places missionaries cannot physically go. Let every broadcast, podcast, and video carry truth with tenderness into closed rooms and closed lands.

Father, give the Church courage to preach Christ where it costs reputation, comfort, and safety. Remind us that the Gospel has always advanced on the road of sacrifice, never on the road of ease.

Lord, bless the catechists who teach the faith village by village, often unpaid and unthanked. They are the backbone of the missions; strengthen their backs, their hearts, and their families.

God of all peoples, let the beauty of holiness in ordinary believers attract those tired of empty promises. May the lives of Your people become the first Gospel many ever read.

Lord, open the universities of the world to honest faith: bless campus ministries, believing professors, and students brave enough to be known as Yours. Let the next generation of leaders meet Christ before they meet power.

Father, send the Gospel deep into the world’s great cities, where millions live lonely in crowds. Raise up churches on every skyline that shine like lamps in apartment windows. Raise up churches on every skyline that shine like lamps in apartment windows for the lonely watching from the dark.

Jesus, bless every Alpha table, every inquiry class, every kitchen where a seeker asks real questions tonight. Meet curiosity with patience, and patience with conversion of heart. Meet curiosity with patience, and patience with the slow, sure conversion of hearts that arguments rarely win.

Lord, let our evangelization always begin with listening. Teach us to hear the wounds and questions beneath people’s arguments, and to answer the person, never merely the point. Answer the person, never merely the point, and let our listening become the first chapter of their faith.

Holy Spirit, unite the witness of divided Christians where You can, so the world sees one family inviting it home. Heal old quarrels that make our message sound unsure of itself.

Father, bless the printing presses, radio towers, and simple bicycles of the missions: every humble tool that carries the Gospel one village further. Nothing offered to Your mission is ever wasted.

Lord, give parents confidence to evangelize their own children first: at the table, in the car, at the bedside. The first mission field has a roof, and it is ours.

God of mercy, reach the people everyone else has written off: the addicted, the imprisoned, the embittered, the exhausted rich. Your Gospel specializes in the unlikely, and we rejoice in it.

Lord Jesus, as You sent the seventy two by two, send companions to every lone witness today. No evangelist should have to be brave alone; pair the timid with the bold and bless them both.

Father, let signs of Your kindness accompany the preaching of Your Word: healings that open hearts, provisions that arrive like parables, reconciliations that preach louder than sermons. Nothing offered to Your mission is ever truly wasted; even the smallest gift returns as somebody’s answered prayer.

Lord of the whole earth, we will not stop praying until every nation has heard. Keep the Church restless for the unreached, generous toward the missions, and joyful in the harvest already ripening.

Prayers for Missionaries and Their Home Churches

Lord, bless the home churches that send missionaries out and then carry them in prayer for decades. Reward the congregations whose names no one knows but whose fingerprints are on every continent.

Father, make every parish a mission-hearted parish: praying by name for its missionaries, giving beyond its comfort, and raising children who dream of the nations. Let no congregation be a dead end for the Gospel.

Jesus, bless the letters, calls, and care packages that keep missionaries tethered to home. Small kindnesses travel far; let every package arrive as a hug from the whole Body of Christ.

Lord, keep missionaries and their supporters honest and close: honest reports, honest needs, honest gratitude. Let trust flow both directions across the oceans, and let no partner feel forgotten. Let trust flow in both directions across the oceans, so that neither senders nor sent ever feel forgotten.

Father, raise up advocates in every congregation who keep the missions before the people’s eyes: telling the stories, hanging the maps, leading the prayers. Give every church its own Pauline Jaricot.

Holy Spirit, bless short-term mission teams with humility to serve and learn more than they teach. Let them return home as lifelong intercessors rather than tourists of other people’s poverty.

Lord, provide for missionaries through their home churches with the reliability of manna: enough, on time, every month. Spare them the anxiety of wondering whether support will arrive, and let them work in peace.

Father, bless the grandparents and parents who release their children to distant mission fields with tears and pride together. Their sacrifice is a hidden altar; honor it with fruit they will one day see.

Jesus, let returning missionaries find home churches that know how to receive them: unhurried listeners, patient friendships, space to grieve and heal. Re-entry is its own mission field; bless those who serve it.

Lord, stir the comfortable suburbs and the busy cities of our own land to remember the world. Let a map on a church wall move hearts as much as sermons do.

Father, bless every mission agency and religious congregation stewarding workers across the globe. Give them wisdom in placing people, courage in hard decisions, and tenderness in caring for the weary.

Holy Spirit, plant mission in the imagination of children in our pews: through stories, through visitors, through prayers at the dinner table. The missionaries of 2050 are coloring in our classrooms today.

Lord, we pray for churches in wealthy lands to give as the Macedonians gave, beyond their ability and with joy. Break the grip of mere maintenance, and turn budgets into blessings for the nations.

Father, bless the friendship between sending churches and receiving churches, that it would be partnership and never paternalism. Let both sides teach, both sides give, and both sides be changed.

Jesus, keep the home fires of prayer burning through the long middle years of a missionary’s service, when novelty fades and headlines move on. Faithful intercession in obscurity is the missions’ hidden engine.

Lord, bless missionaries’ home churches with fresh vision when their workers retire or relocate. Let the ending of one chapter open two new ones, for the harvest does not retire.

Father, we ask for unity among sending churches of different traditions who support the same fields. Let the world see one Christ proclaimed by one family, whatever the sign on the door back home.

Holy Spirit, give home congregations the gift of specific prayer: not vague blessings, but names, needs, dates, and dangers carried faithfully. Specific prayers build specific friendships across the world. Specific prayers build specific friendships across the world, and friendship is the soil of lasting mission.

Lord, reward the secretaries, treasurers, and volunteers who move mission money and mission mail with integrity. Their unseen administration is holy work; bless their hands and their ledgers. Their unseen administration is holy work; bless their hands, their ledgers, and their quiet faithfulness today.

Father, let every home church that prays through this treasury adopt one unreached place as its own in prayer. A world prayed for piece by piece, parish by parish, will be a world thoroughly prayed for.

Prayers for Persecuted Christians

Lord Jesus, You promised that Your followers would face hatred as You did, and today many bear that cost in prison cells, lost jobs, and broken homes. Be near to the persecuted tonight; let them feel the prayers of the worldwide Church like a hand on their shoulder.

Father, strengthen Christians who must worship in secret, in whispers, in basements and forests. Let their quiet songs rise louder in heaven than our comfortable choirs, and keep them safe until they can sing in the open.

Lord, protect the believers who have lost everything for Your name: homes burned, businesses seized, families divided. Restore to them a hundredfold in this life where You can, and heaven’s fullness where men refuse.

Holy Spirit, give imprisoned Christians supernatural peace in their cells, and let their witness convert guards and fellow prisoners as it did in Philippi. Turn their chains into pulpits. Turn their chains into pulpits, and their patience into the sermon their captors cannot stop thinking about.

Father, comfort the children of persecuted believers, who learn early that faith can cost dearly. Let them also learn that You are worth it, and surround them with angels and kind strangers.

Lord, give wisdom to pastors leading underground flocks: when to gather, when to scatter, whom to trust. Be their security, their strategy, and their peace in decisions no one should have to make.

Jesus, we pray for the persecutors themselves, as You taught us from the cross. Visit them in dreams, soften them through conscience, and turn today’s Saul into tomorrow’s Paul again and again.

Father, let the blood of the martyrs be, as the early Church said, the seed of Christians. Water that seed with our prayers until the hardest lands bloom with unexpected churches.

Lord, bless the organizations that document persecution and advocate for the voiceless before governments. Give them accuracy, courage, and favor, and let their reports become rescues. Give their reports accuracy, courage, and favor, so that paper protests become real rescues for real people.

Holy Spirit, sustain converts from other faiths who face rejection or danger from their own families. Be mother, father, and family to them, and connect them swiftly to believers who will love them as kin.

Father, protect Christian women targeted for their faith and their vulnerability in hostile places. Be their defender where earthly defenders fail, and raise up communities that guard them well. Be mother, father, and family to them, and connect them quickly to believers who will love them as their own kin.

Lord, keep the faith of persecuted believers from turning to hatred. Give them the miracle of blessing their enemies, the miracle that has always made the watching world ask questions.

Jesus, remember those celebrating this World Mission Sunday in refugee camps, far from home because of violence and faith together. Let the Church worldwide be their homeland until they can return.

Father, open prison doors in Your time, as You did for Peter, and let released believers find healing, work, and their families restored. Where doors stay shut, fill the cell with Your presence instead.

Lord, give the comfortable Church a heart that refuses to forget its suffering members. When one part suffers, Scripture says, the whole body suffers; teach us to feel it and to act on it.

Holy Spirit, grant persecuted Christians the grace to forgive, which is the crown of their witness. And grant us the grace to learn from them what our cushioned faith cannot teach us.

Father, protect the smuggled Scriptures, the hidden radios, and the memorized verses of believers in closed lands. Let nothing stop Your Word, which has outlived every empire that tried. Let nothing stop Your Word, which has outlived every empire that ever tried to silence it.

Lord, strengthen the spouses left behind when a believer is imprisoned, carrying households alone under hostile eyes. Provide for them miraculously and let them know the world Church remembers them.

Jesus, crown the martyrs of this generation in glory, and let their families receive the honor due to households that paid the highest price. May their stories be told in heaven and retold on earth.

Father, we pray for the day when no one suffers for the name of Jesus anywhere on earth. Until that day, make us worthy of our brave brothers and sisters: braver in prayer, braver in giving, braver in witness.

Prayers for Peace Among Nations

Prince of Peace, the nations rage and the headlines bleed, yet Your throne is unmoved. Rule the hearts of leaders who have never bowed to You, and bend history toward peace by Your mighty hand.

Father, end the wars that are running tonight: silence the guns, ground the aircraft, empty the battlefields into hospitals of reconciliation. Let children in war zones sleep one whole night without fear.

Lord, bless the peacemakers You called blessed: negotiators at weary tables, aid workers in dangerous streets, pastors sheltering enemies under one roof. Give them protection, patience, and surprising breakthroughs. Treaties can stop bullets for a season; only Your Spirit can stop the contempt handed down like an inheritance.

Holy Spirit, heal the hatred between peoples that outlives every treaty. Treaties stop bullets; only You can stop the contempt passed down like inheritance from grandfather to grandson. Let children in war zones sleep one whole night without fear, and then another, until peace feels normal.

Jesus, we pray for the soldiers of every nation to come home whole: in body, in mind, in conscience. Let no young life be spent on battlefields that prayer could have emptied.

Father, let the resources of nations flow from weapons to wheat: from arsenals to agriculture, from missiles to medicine. Turn swords into plowshares in budgets as well as in prophecies.

Lord, protect the missionaries and aid workers caught between armies, and let their neutrality and kindness be respected by all sides. Make their compounds islands of sanity in seas of conflict.

God of justice, establish fair dealings between nations: honest trade, honored agreements, borders respected. Peace built on injustice is only a pause; build the real thing among us. Make their compounds islands of sanity in seas of conflict, and let enemies on both sides seek shelter there.

Father, comfort every mother tonight who does not know where her child is because of war. Reunite the scattered, name the nameless, and let refugee lists end in embraces. Reunite the scattered, name the nameless, and let the long lists of the missing end in embraces.

Lord Jesus, Your kingdom is not of this world, yet it transforms this world wherever it lands. Plant it in the parliaments and palaces, the barracks and border towns, until peace becomes policy.

Holy Spirit, raise up a generation of leaders in every nation who have learned peacemaking at the feet of Christ. Let them outnumber the warmakers in our lifetime. Let them outnumber the warmakers in our lifetime, and let their training begin in the churches of today.

Father, we pray for nations divided within themselves: heal civil hatreds, tribal wounds, and political contempt. A house divided against itself cannot stand; be the foundation that reunites it. A house divided against itself cannot stand; be the foundation that reunites it from the ground up.

Lord, let the Church in every nation be the one institution that belongs fully to both sides of every conflict, because she belongs wholly to You. Make her the meeting ground where enemies become brothers.

Jesus, calm the seas of migration with compassion and order: safe journeys, welcoming doors, and homelands healed enough that no one must flee them. Until then, let the displaced find family among Your people.

Father, guard the world’s fragile truces tonight and turn ceasefires into covenants. Where peace is young and breakable, surround it with prayer like scaffolding around a rising building. Where peace is young and breakable, surround it with prayer like scaffolding around a rising building.

Lord, forgive the Church for the wars blessed in Your name across history. Purify our witness until the world sees Christ in us and finds our peace credible and contagious.

Holy Spirit, teach nations the slow skills of peace: truth-telling about the past, justice that restores, memorials that teach rather than inflame. Grow in us the patience peace requires. Grow in us the patience that real peace requires, for forgiveness is slower work than fighting.

Father, bless the children learning the names of countries today only through disaster news. Give them a different atlas by adulthood: nations known for harvests, songs, and open churches. Give them a different atlas by adulthood: nations known for harvests, for songs, and for open churches.

Lord, let the peace of Christ rule first in the hearts praying these words, for nations are only hearts in aggregate. Begin Your world peace campaign here, in this one surrendered heart.

King of kings, we long for the day when every throne bows and every war room becomes a museum. Hasten the day, and meanwhile use us as its advance party of peace.

Prayers for Young People Hearing the Call

Lord of the harvest, call the young by name this year, in dorm rooms and youth camps, at altars and kitchen tables. Let a new generation hear “whom shall I send” and answer before the world talks them out of it.

Father, give young people heroes worth imitating: missionaries, martyrs, and joyful saints rather than empty celebrities. Let biographies of the brave find their way into teenage hands. Let a new generation hear the question, whom shall I send, and answer it before the world talks them out of it.

Holy Spirit, protect the first tender stirring of a missionary call in a young heart. Shield it from mockery, from distraction, and from the slow death of “someday” that never becomes a date.

Jesus, give parents grace to bless their children’s callings even when the call is costly and far away. Turn kitchen table tears into altar table offerings, for You are worthy of our dearest.

Lord, call young people from the mission fields themselves, for the Church in Africa, Asia, and Latin America is now sending missionaries to the world. Let the flow of sending run in every direction, as it should.

Father, equip young missionaries with languages, professional skills, and unshakable consecration. Let them arrive on their fields excellent in craft and humble in spirit, a combination the devil cannot imitate.

Holy Spirit, stir students to use their degrees for the kingdom: doctors for mission hospitals, teachers for mission schools, engineers for wells and bridges that preach. Let no vocation be wasted on lesser things.

Lord, rescue young hearts from the despair and distraction of their screens into the adventure of Your mission. Show them a story bigger than their feed, and a glory worth their years.

Jesus, bless youth pastors and campus ministers who water the seeds of calling week by week. Give them discernment to recognize the trembling Samuel before he recognizes himself. Give them discernment to recognize the trembling Samuel standing before them before he recognizes himself.

Father, provide scholarships, training, and mentors for every young person who steps toward the mission field. Let no called one be stopped by tuition, debt, or lack of a guide.

Lord, let short mission trips in youth become lifelong surrenders in adulthood. Water the memories of what they saw until compassion matures into vocation. Let no called one be stopped by tuition, by debt, or by the simple lack of a guide.

Holy Spirit, call the quiet ones too: the shy, the studious, the overlooked, as You called Jude Thaddeus out of obscurity. The mission needs translators and treasurers as surely as preachers.

Father, guard young missionaries in training from discouragement when the support raising is slow and the language is hard. Teach them in the waiting room of calling the lessons the field will require.

Lord Jesus, when young people ask what their lives are for, let the Church answer with the nations. Give them a world sized purpose before the world gives them a screen sized one.

God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of generations, take the faith of grandparents and ignite it fresh in grandchildren. Let the hundredth World Mission Sunday not be the last great sending, but the start of the greatest.

Prayers for Africa

Father, thank You for the vibrant, youthful Church of Africa, growing like a harvest after rain. Bless her catechists who walk miles to teach, her seminaries overflowing with vocations, and her joyful choirs that teach the world how to worship.

Lord, bring peace to the regions of Africa torn by violence, especially where Christians are targeted for their faith. Protect villages in Nigeria, the Congo, Mozambique, and the Sahel, and let the guns fall silent for good.

Jesus, bless the mission hospitals and clinics of Africa, where a handful of doctors serve multitudes. Multiply their medicines, sustain their staff, and let healing preach Your compassion in every ward.

Father, raise up African missionaries for Africa and for the world, as is already gloriously happening. Let the Church that received missionaries now send them to every continent, including ours.

Lord, send rain where drought has cracked the earth in the Horn of Africa and beyond. Feed the hungry, fill the wells, and let no mother have to choose which child eats tonight.

Holy Spirit, bless the small Christian communities of Africa, where neighbors gather under trees to pray and share life. Let those little cells become the strong bones of a mighty Church.

Father, protect African schoolchildren, especially girls whose education is opposed or endangered. Let classrooms be safe, teachers be honored, and ignorance retreat before a generation of learned believers. Let classrooms be safe, teachers be honored, and ignorance retreat before a generation of learned believers in Africa.

Lord, heal the wounds of ethnic conflict in Africa with the reconciling blood of Christ. Where tribes have warred, let churches become the first places where old enemies share one cup.

Jesus, bless the street children and orphans of Africa’s great cities with protectors, homes, and futures. Raise up mothers and fathers of faith who gather the abandoned into families. Raise up mothers and fathers of faith who gather the abandoned into families and give them back their names.

Father, give African leaders in church and state integrity that resists corruption’s easy money. Let righteousness exalt those nations, and let the Church model the honesty she preaches. Let righteousness exalt those nations, and let the Church model in her own life the honesty she preaches.

Lord, reach the unreached peoples of Africa’s deserts, forests, and islands with the Gospel in their own heart languages. Guide translators and evangelists across every hard mile until the last village has heard.

Holy Spirit, pour out revival on the universities of Africa, where tomorrow’s presidents and pastors are studying side by side. Let campuses become launching fields for a continent of witnesses.

Father, strengthen African families under economic pressure, and honor the grandmothers raising generations on prayer and courage. Let their faithfulness be repaid in their grandchildren’s flourishing. Let their courage and patience be repaid openly in the flourishing of the grandchildren they are raising.

Lord, we thank You that the blood of African martyrs, ancient and modern, has never stopped bearing fruit. Let their courage shame our comfort and inspire our prayers until the whole continent sings Your praise.

Prayers for Asia

Father, Asia is home to most of humanity and to some of the smallest, bravest churches on earth. Bless every hidden congregation, every house church, every lone believer in a vast city, and let them know the worldwide family remembers them.

Lord, protect the Christians of Asia who worship under surveillance and restriction. Give them the wisdom of serpents and the innocence of doves, and keep their joy unmistakably supernatural. Give them the wisdom of serpents and the innocence of doves, and keep their joy stubbornly supernatural.

Jesus, bless the explosive growth of faith in parts of Asia, and give new believers deep roots, sound teaching, and shepherds after Your heart. Let quantity mature into quality that lasts generations.

Father, send the Gospel to the great unreached peoples of Asia: across the mountains, the megacities, and the islands. Raise up Asian missionaries who understand these cultures from the inside and carry Christ into them beautifully.

Lord, heal the divisions of the Korean peninsula in Your mercy, and prepare the Church for a day of open doors in the North. Meanwhile, sustain the suffering believers there with manna we cannot see.

Holy Spirit, bless the Church in India, ancient since the apostle Thomas, amid rising pressures. Give her courage, unity, and legal favor, and let her schools and hospitals keep preaching without words.

Father, comfort the Christians of Myanmar amid civil war, and all Asians displaced by conflict and disaster. Let relief reach them swiftly, and let the Church be first in line to serve and last to leave.

Lord, bless the Filipino diaspora carrying faith into homes and hospitals across the world. Their quiet witness in foreign households has evangelized more widely than they know; reward them openly.

Jesus, reach the young people of Asia’s megacities, prosperous and pressured at once, hungry for meaning money cannot buy. Let churches there speak their language of honest questions and real community.

Father, bless Bible translation for Asia’s thousands of languages and dialects. Let every people group one day hold Your Word and say, with tears, that God speaks their mother tongue.

Lord, protect Asia’s Christians from the subtle persecution of exclusion: jobs denied, permits delayed, reputations smeared. Be their advocate in every office and their portion when the world withholds. Be their advocate in every office that delays them, and their portion in every place where the world withholds.

Holy Spirit, stir the wealthy churches of Asia to become sending churches for their own continent. Let resources flow from Asia’s abundance to Asia’s frontiers, and from there to the world.

Father, we pray for the islands and high valleys, the jungle villages and desert towns of Asia where Jesus is not yet known. Send workers, by road, river, and air, until the map is filled with praise.

Lord, let Asia’s ancient wisdom cultures find their fulfillment in Christ, who is older than every tradition. Show millions that the Gospel is not a foreign import but the homecoming of every human longing.

Prayers for Europe

Father, Europe’s cathedrals preach in stone to nations that have largely stopped listening. Breathe on this continent again, as You did when monks and missionaries first carried the Gospel through its forests.

Lord, rekindle faith in Europe’s cities, where churches close while hearts quietly hunger. Raise up new communities in old buildings, and let ancient bells ring over revived neighborhoods. Repay her now by sending missionaries to her from every continent she once blessed, and give her grace to receive them.

Jesus, thank You for the missionaries Europe sent to the whole world for centuries. Now repay her by sending missionaries to her, from Africa, Asia, and Latin America, and give her the humility to receive them as gifts.

Father, comfort Ukraine and every European land scarred by war, and use the Church there as healer and reconciler. Let enemies’ children one day study in schools the Church rebuilt.

Holy Spirit, reach Europe’s young people beneath their irony and exhaustion with the real Christ. Let them discover that the faith of their great grandparents is not a museum but a fire.

Lord, bless the migrant churches thriving in Europe’s cities, whose zeal is a gift to the whole continent. Knit immigrant and native believers into one family that models the kingdom.

Father, give Europe’s remaining Christians courage to witness in workplaces where faith is politely dismissed. Let their integrity and kindness raise questions no one can quite ignore. Let their integrity and their kindness raise questions in their coworkers that no one can quite manage to ignore.

Lord, preserve Europe’s Christian heritage from being merely heritage: let the feast days become faith days again, and the empty pews fill with people who have met the living Christ. Let the empty pews fill again with people who have met the living Christ and cannot keep the meeting quiet.

Jesus, heal the old wounds between Europe’s churches, east and west, north and south. A united witness on the continent that divided Christianity would preach to the whole world. A united witness on the very continent that divided Christianity would preach repentance and hope to the whole world.

Father, provide for the rural parishes of Europe where one priest serves many villages and the faithful are elderly. Send workers, renew hope, and let no village church close without heaven’s objection.

Holy Spirit, stir Europe’s universities, where the faith was once argued into cathedrals, to wrestle honestly with Christ again. Raise up believing scholars whose excellence cannot be patronized. Raise up believing scholars whose excellence cannot be patronized and whose kindness cannot be explained away.

Lord, let Europe’s story not end in spiritual twilight. Write a second spring for this continent, that the lands of Patrick, Boniface, and Bridget would sing again in our lifetime.

Prayers for the Americas

Father, thank You for the Americas, lands shaped by missionaries, martyrs, and waves of revival. Bless North and South together, and deepen the faith of the hemisphere that now sends missionaries to every continent.

Lord, renew the Church in North America amid comfort, division, and distraction. Give her prophets who call her back to mission, and laity who trade spectatorship for discipleship. Give her prophets who call her back to mission, and laypeople who trade comfortable spectatorship for costly discipleship.

Jesus, bless Latin America’s vibrant faith and its base communities where the poor read Scripture with hungry hearts. Protect her pastors from violence, and let her theology of hope keep preaching to the world.

Father, reach the indigenous peoples of the Americas with a Gospel that honors their dignity and languages. Heal the wounds inflicted when evangelization walked with empire, and let Christ be received as liberator, never as invader.

Lord, protect the missionaries and priests working in regions ruled by cartels and gangs in the Americas. Let their parishes be sanctuaries in every sense, and convert the violent by the courage of the meek.

Holy Spirit, pour unity over the divided churches of the Americas, where denominations multiply on every street. Let their shared love for Jesus outshout their differences before a watching generation.

Father, bless the immigrant Church in the United States and Canada, whose faith arrives with suitcases and sustains parishes. Let receiving churches honor what these believers carry: zeal, family, and prayer.

Lord, raise up missionaries from the Americas’ young people in great numbers, as in generations past. Let this hemisphere’s wealth fund the harvest and its children staff it. Let this hemisphere’s wealth fund the great harvest, and let its sons and daughters staff it with joy.

Jesus, heal the Amazon and its peoples, threatened by greed and fire. Protect the missionaries serving river communities, and let the Gospel travel every tributary until the forest itself seems to sing.

Father, comfort the Caribbean churches rebuilding after hurricanes year upon year. Give them resilience, resources, and neighbors who arrive with hammers and stay for the long work. Give them resilience for the rebuilding, resources for the work, and neighbors who arrive with hammers and stay.

Lord, we pray for Canada’s northern and indigenous communities, where mission history holds both grace and pain. Bring healing, indigenous Christian leadership, and churches that are truly home. Bring the healing only truth and grace together can give, and let belonging finally outrun the old pain.

Holy Spirit, awaken the sleeping giant of prayer in the Americas: millions of believers whose intercession could shake nations. Call the hemisphere to its knees on this World Mission Sunday.

Father, bless the Spanish and Portuguese speaking world’s missionary movement, sending workers to Europe, Africa, and Asia. Let the daughters of old mission lands become mothers of new ones. Let the daughters of the old mission lands become the mothers of new ones, to the ends of the earth.

Lord, let justice and evangelization walk hand in hand across the Americas: land defended, wages fair, children safe. A Gospel that blesses souls and bodies alike is the one Jesus preached; make us its faithful carriers.

Prayers for Oceania

Father, bless Oceania, where the Gospel arrived by canoe and ship and took root in island hearts. Thank You for nations where church bells ring across lagoons and whole villages keep the Lord’s Day holy.

Lord, protect the island nations facing rising seas that threaten their very ground. Give their leaders a voice among the powerful, and let the Church worldwide remember that these are our brothers’ shores disappearing.

Jesus, bless the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of Australia with healing, justice, and churches where their leadership flourishes. Heal the wounds of history with the only medicine strong enough: truth and grace together.

Father, renew the Church in Australia and New Zealand amid secular ease, and thank You for the Maori and Pacific congregations whose faith burns warm. Let their fire spread to every cooling corner.

Lord, reach the highlands of Papua New Guinea and the remotest islands where airstrips and missionaries are lifelines. Protect the pilots, translators, and teachers who serve where roads do not go.

Holy Spirit, bless the Pacific diaspora carrying island faith into the cities of the world. Their choirs have filled foreign churches with joy; let their witness fill neighborhoods too. Their witness has filled foreign neighborhoods with warmth; let it now fill whole cities with light.

Father, provide for island pastors who serve many villages by boat, dependent on weather and fuel. Calm their seas, supply their needs, and multiply their strength like the loaves and fishes.

Lord, protect Oceania’s young people drawn to distant cities and digital worlds. Give island churches the wisdom to disciple a generation stretched between the village and the globe. A generation stretched between the village and the globe needs shepherds fluent in both; raise them up.

Jesus, let the unity of island churches, often one congregation for a whole atoll, teach the divided mainland Church humility. Where believers have no choice but each other, they discover they are family.

Father, we praise You that the ends of the earth in the Pacific heard the Gospel and sang it back in harmonies the world envies. Keep their song strong, and send it out again on mission to the nations.

Prayers for the Middle East

Father, we pray for the land where Jesus walked, wept, died, and rose, that its peoples would know His peace at last. Let Jerusalem become what her name promises: a city of peace for all her children.

Lord, protect the ancient Christian communities of the Middle East, present since Pentecost itself, now small and pressured. Let the world’s Church never forget that these are the mother churches of us all.

Jesus, comfort the Christians of Iraq and Syria rebuilding among ruins, determined to stay where their faith was born. Give them neighbors of goodwill, open doors for their children, and hope that outlasts rubble.

Father, bless Lebanon’s churches as they shelter refugees and serve across every line of division. Let their courage in crisis preach to the region louder than any sermon. Let their courage in the middle of crisis preach louder to the watching region than any sermon could.

Lord, we pray for believers in the land of Your birth to be peacemakers between peoples who both claim the same stones. Make them bridges where walls are profitable to everyone but heaven.

Holy Spirit, visit the peoples of the Arabian Peninsula and the Gulf with dreams and visions of Jesus, as so many testimonies already report. Open hearts where doors are closed to missionaries.

Father, protect the expatriate Christians working in the Middle East, worshiping quietly far from home. Let their hidden churches be full of Your presence and their witness fragrant even in silence.

Lord, heal Egypt’s ancient Church, strong since Mark the Evangelist, and protect her people from every attack. Let the land that sheltered the Holy Family shelter His followers still. Let the land that sheltered the Holy Family in their flight shelter His followers in safety still.

Jesus, we pray for Iran’s growing house churches, astonishing the world with their courage and joy. Protect their gatherings, mature their leaders, and let their story embolden believers everywhere. Protect their gatherings, mature their young leaders, and let their remarkable story embolden comfortable believers everywhere.

Father, bless Turkey, land of Paul’s journeys and the first churches of Revelation, with a fresh hearing of the Gospel. Let the soil that once blazed with faith remember its first love.

Lord, end the wars of the Middle East in our generation: Yemen, Syria, and every unnamed village war besides. Let children there inherit olive trees and schools instead of front lines.

Holy Spirit, raise up Middle Eastern Christian leaders of wisdom and humility for this hard hour. Give them the serpent’s wisdom for survival and the dove’s purity for witness, in full measure.

Father, let Jewish, Muslim, and Christian neighbors in the Holy Land learn the arts of shared life: shared streets, shared water, shared mourning, shared hope. Begin with small mercies that grow.

Lord, preserve the holy places not as museums but as living wells of prayer for the whole Church. Let pilgrims return home as missionaries, carrying the land’s lessons into their own streets.

Jesus, You wept over Jerusalem; teach us to weep in prayer over the cities of the world as You did. Let our tears water seeds we will never see harvested, and trust the harvest to You.

Father, from the Middle East the Gospel once went out to all the world; let the region that sent the first missionaries now receive the prayers of all the world in return. The debt is gladly paid, with interest, in love.

Lord, gather every prayer in this treasury into one great Amen from Your whole Church. One in Christ, united in mission, we offer them for the nations we love because You loved them first.

Heavenly Father, as this World Mission Sunday passes, do not let our mission hearts pass with it. Keep us praying, giving, and going all year, until every nation hears and Your kingdom comes in fullness.

A Closing Blessing for the Nations

May God bless the missionaries near and far, the churches that send and the fields that receive, the persecuted who shine and the comfortable who are waking up. May the theme of this centenary year become the habit of our whole lives: one in Christ, united in mission, until the earth is filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea (Habakkuk 2:14). Amen.
